And we’re almost done: Kobol’s Last Gleaming part 1 and 2!
That two-parter was a really mean way of ending season 1 and I’m glad that it was already available on DVD when I started watching BSG. It’s also an episode that has very little A/R moments – as in “scenes together”.

  • Once again, you just have to take your hat off to the acting genius of James Callis, Mary McDonnell and Tricia Helfer. How could they remain straight-faced long enough to get the scene on Colonial One filmed where Baltar is once again talking to both women at the same time? Especially since MM is apparently prone to giggle fits.

  • Aaawww, little Lee is jealous of Baltar! Then again: what right does he have? It’s not like there’s been anything going on between him and Kara other than the dance on Colonial Day (or at least nothing that I paid closer attention to Wink). Is this the moment where he turns into Leemo?

  • In the scene where Bill and Laura are discussing the arrow of Apollo (“I didn’t know you were that religious”), Bill is soooo checking out Laura’s cleavage Wink

  • There’s one thing that’s always bothering me: how can the raptor crew that crashes on Kobol survive when the front window shatters? I mean, they’re relatively high up in the air when that happens. Shouldn’t the cold in that height affect them in some way? Okay, a few of them are wearing flight suits, but what about their faces?

  • Billy really did grow up during season 1. The boy of the first few episodes would never have dared to speak to Laura like that when he tells her that she’s making a mistake in wanting to ask Kara to retrieve the arrow. Two thumbs up for Billy!

  • Poor Kara, though. She’s always had complete faith in Bill, even when he treats her like a mushroom (you know, keeps her in the dark and feeds her bullshit, as in the “secret location” of earth). And all of a sudden she’s forced to take a long hard look at her father figure and finds him severely wanting. That scene in the hangar deck always makes me want to hug her.

  • When Laura admits that she asked Kara to take the raider and return to Kobol, Bill tells her something like “I’m terminating your presidency as of this moment”. Does he really have the right to do that? And if so, then why go to all the trouble of organising an election instead of letting the commander of the fleet just choose the president? I would understand it if Laura was military and disobeyed an order from her superior, but isn’t it the other way round here, isn’t she his superior? *iz confused*

  • But Bill’s face is priceless when Laura bluffs and tells him that the press is listening to their conversation. It’s one of those “Oh frak!” expressions Very Happy

  • And finally, a most important question: Where does Lee lose his jacket between being arrested on Colonial One and being escorted to CIC?

And that, ladies (and gentlemen, if there are any around here) concludes season 1! One down only 2 ½ more to go.
