Hey, guys, I noticed new message in the EdwardJamesOlmosFriends yahoo group:
Obama surrogates to speak at Paepcke

It might be as close as Sen. Barack Obama gets to Aspen this election season.
At Paepcke Auditorium on Saturday, Obama surrogates Robert F. Kennedy Jr.; Arturo Rodriguez, president of the United Farm Workers union; and Oscar-nominated actor Edward James Olmos will hold a community forum. The event will take place between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
The forum is intended to take the form of dialogue more than political speechifying, with the three noted campaign representatives on hand to answer questions about Obama’s policies and candidacy, local Obama volunteer Christopher Bryan said.
Son of the one-time presidential candidate and 1960s icon Bobby Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has taken an active role in campaigning for Obama in Colorado and New Mexico, Bryan said. Bryan noted that Kennedy’s background in environmental law means he will have plenty to say about Obama’s position on issues — such as water and energy development — that are important to the Western Slope.
Kennedy had originally come out in support of Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary, breaking with cousin Caroline Kennedy and uncle Sen. Edward Kennedy, whose endorsements provided a major lift to the Obama campaign during the primaries. Like most Democrats, however, RFK Jr. has closed ranks around the Obama-Joe Biden ticket.
Rodriguez took the reins of the United Farm Workers union following the death of the union’s founder, Ceasar Chavez, in 1993. The union is recognized as a force that improved working conditions for laborers in the fields of California and beyond.
Olmos is perhaps best known for his Oscar-nominated role portraying an inspirational inner-city math teacher in “Stand and Deliver.
Bryan said that the trio will focus on speaking to undecided voters in particular. “These are surrogates who are authorized to speak on behalf of the campaign, Bryan said.
Although Obama has yet to make a campaign stop in the Roaring Fork Valley this election season, his Republican opponent, John McCain, made two trips to Aspen during the summer.
